Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
There is one area in the evaluation which I could have used but have not used is the video sharing website you tube similar to blogger people are able to leave their own comments below about the video that they have just watched. The reason for not putting my video on you tube is because of the fact that after looking at some of the other A level work that other students have put on the site their does not seem to be much audience feedback or in some cases none.
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
In the evaluation of my entire project there are a couple of ways in which I have used media technologies to help me in the evalution section. One of such technologies is the internet site called blogger.com because it gives me a chance to reflect on the decision upon which I have made and to see it I were justified in the choices in that I have made. Blogger is also good as it allows audience feedback to me on all of my blog posts which helps me make decisions on what I perhaps could do better or differently according to other people who view my blog
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
Another media technology that I used the internet to search for a sutiable font for me to use in the creation of my ancillary tasks because at the time which I was creating my ancillary tasks there was not a suitable font on Photoshop which best suited what I wanted to do so I was required to search in finding another font and I then came across a website called dafont.com which is a website that contains a variety of different fronts which people are able to download for use in photoshop. After searching for the right font I decided on two fonts that I thought that I could use for the ancillary tasks. These were Pointy and Anglic war.

One final way in which that I used you tube was that I used the video sharing site to look at the conventions at other popular genres that I found during the research of the genre that the people like to listen to. The most popular that I found seemed to be either classic rock or Hip-Hip styles of music. Going on what I had found out I started to look at the conventions that these genres of music seem to have within there music video
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
Another area in which I used media technologies in the research and planning stage was again the use of the web site of youtube helped me. It helped me to understand all of the conventions and the theories of a music video by looking at a wide variety of music videos from different genres and looking at how these music videos used these theories and put them into practice. For example Trencher - mouth to bottom, Hifana - banzai cooking and Maccabees - x-ray
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
In the research and planning stage of the project I used a variety of different media technologies to help me understand how and what the genre that I have chosen to use had certain conventions that I needed to follow in the creation of my music video. To help me with this I used a website called www.youtube.com which is a video sharing website on which users can upload and share videos. To start with I used this website to look at videos from my genre these included The Big Pink by Velvet, Kids by MGMT and Gronlandic by Of Montreal. After looking at these videos I managed to note down what the conventions of my genre that I was going to use in my music video.

• Another feature on Photoshop that I was able to use which help me in the creation of my ancillary task was the fact that each piece of information that you place on the blank canvas that you start with automatically gets put on to a new layer which you are able to then able to correct any mistakes that are made in the process by just selecting the relevant layer
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
• Some examples of which I used Photoshop in the ancillary task was the fact that I was able to manipulate several images that I required to use for the task by allowing me to change both the Hue and the saturation of each image. By doing this I managed to change the whole colour of the individual from the normal contrast to a more fitting darkish blue colour upon which I was after.

• After the music video was completed I then moved on to complete the rest of the ancillary tasks which included a DVD cover, the inside cover and a Magazine advert. To help me in the construction of these tasks I used a program on the MAC computers called Photoshop which is a specifically designed piece of software which is mainly a graphics editing program and help me greatly in the creation of the ancillary tasks.
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
• Another area in which I used media technology is in the fact the pictures that I needed for the music video were hand drawn and to get them on the MAC computers we needed to take still images using a digital camera from which I was able to upload them to the computer. Another media technology that we used in the construction stage of the project was the use of the video camera that we used in the filming of the live band footage that I used in the video. I chose to use this method of capturing the live footage that I needed because the all of the other options available to me like using a mobile phone camera did not give me the same high quality footage that I needed to make the music video.
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
• Another area which final cut has been used in the construction stage is the fact that the animation on its own is just a series of pictures in which once put altogether make the animation. However for this to run smoothly all of the images must be shown for about 0.06th of a second and in final cut I was able to change all of the images so that they are only shown for 0.06th of a second.
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
• In the construction stage of the project I have uses several media technologies to help the construction of both the music video and in the creation of my ancillary tasks. For the music video I use a piece of video editing software called final cut. Within final cut I was able to create some of the extra effects which I would be required to use to assist me in making the animation within the music video. Some of the specific effects which I have used to great effect are the motion effects and the strobe effect. I have mainly used these effects to make the video more look like animation which includes the real life band footage.
Evaluation - How did you use media technologies in the construction, research and planning and the evaluation stages?
• For the creation of all my media products I have used a variety of media technologies though the various stages of the construction, research and planning and evaluation stages of the project. There are several examples when I have used these different technologies through the use of both hardware and software. A good example of using a specific piece of hardware in the project is the fact that the whole project was created specifically on apple MAC computers which are designed specifically to be the best in the editing and recording of media products such as the creation a music video.
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• One final area which the audience feedback helped make the music video a better video was the fact that in some of the animation shots seem to be almost distorted ruining the overall impact of the animation. The solution to this was to simply re-draw and re-upload the images upon which the music video uses for the animation
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• Another area in which audience feedback helped is similar to my ancillary tasks in as much as the footage that we are using in the music video seems to stand out to much and there is too much of a contrast between the ‘cartoon’ animation and the very realistic band footage. To find the solution I started to play around with the idea of trying to make the band footage more look like the animation and less realistic.
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• For my music video audience feedback which also help me to make several corrections and several improvements. However the fact that there were several problems with the music video there were some clear points which the audience seem to like about the music video, the first of with was the fact that the majority of the music video is in animation form this seem to be the right direction which the video was heading due to the fact that the audience seem to like the experimental idea of showing the music video. Another area which seemed to surprise me is the whole story/idea behind the music video that the audience seem to find really popular. As with most projects there were some issues that the music video needed to address to make it more successful it its representation of the band. A clear example of this is the actual band footage upon which we have shot although that there is lots of footage of the band almost ‘messing’ around with each other there is almost not enough footage of the band actually playing their instruments and from the audience feedback which I received that is almost an important part of the video as the animation is. The solution to this problem was to reshoot only some of the band footage with the emphasis on the band actually playing there instruments rather than them just playing around.
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• One final area in which the audience feedback helped me to make corrections on my ancillary task was the fact that they pointed out some minor error with the information which I had included on both the DVD cover and the magazine advert. With this information I managed to help to change this incorrect information and put the correct information on. This included the position of all the relevant icons like the copyright symbol, the DVD symbol and the record label logo.
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• Another area in which audience feedback helped me to identify some areas which could be improved was again to do with the ancillary tasks which I have created. The problem which I discovered was the fact that although I had chosen the style of font that I decided to use I found out that the font was hard to see and understand what I have written on the ancillary tasks which was the font anglic war. so I decided to ask what font would look best on the ancillary tasks from a selection of fonts which I had managed to obtain from the website Dafont.com which fitted with the genre and from a enamours decision they helped me to decided on the font called Pointy of which made the written information more clearer to read and understand.

Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• One of the several points that were pointed out to me was the images that I have used on the tasks. The images themselves that I took stood out from the rest of the package because of the fact that while the rest of the products had a certain colour scheme to them the images just stood out having not done anything to them. To find a solution to this I started to experiment with the Hue and Saturation of each picture. After some experimentation with this I discovered the perfect colour to which I could manipulate to the pictures. As a result the images fitted with the tasks as they managed to fit with the colour scheme which I had tried to create.
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• From the audience feedback for which I received for the ancillary tasks, were main positive aspects like the fact that what I have accomplished with the tasks were the fact that most of the tasks seem to fit with the genre which I was trying to achieve and that the ancillary tasks seem to follow from the music video due to the fact that i have used images on of the band members on the front of all the different items which I have created. However there were several points which i discovered with the tasks that I need to correct to make the tasks even better
Evaluation - What have you learnt from you audience feedback?
• The purpose of audience feedback to find out that what I have created people find it suitable for the task which I have decided to accomplish and if that it is not suitable for the task at hand I must make changes to either the ancillary tasks or the music video which I have created.
Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• The overall combination of the of all the elements that I have used in the creation of both the main product ( Music video ) and the ancillary tasks ( DVD Cover, Inside cover and the magazine advert) have been effective in showing the audience a clear overall image for the band. However with additional improvements to my work like changing the colour scheme to my work, the representation of all the products would be greatly improved.
Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• Another aspect of my ancillary tasks which I drew inspiration from my music video were the use of the band images. The images that I used for the task were mainly of the band performing which to some work well in following the same style with in my music video. For example throughout my music video some of the footage that I was were of the band almost “chilling out “ and enjoying themselves and I wanted to carry this on though on my DVD cover by using images of the band enjoying themselves. I did not want to use these images on my magazine advert due to the fact that it only showed only one side of the music video and did not really show the audience the genre of the band.
Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• Looking back at what I have completed for my ancillary tasks I have noticed that they could have been improvements in which I could have made which would have more suited the style of the music video. An example of this is the colour scheme, the genre of other similar bands use of light and bright colours but however I decided to use more dark colours like black and a Dark blue. This reason for this was that I wanted to try something different and challenge the current conventions.
Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• Another aspect that I tried to use in my ancillary tasks was the image of the peace symbol that I have used. The reason for me using this particular image in my tasks is to help my extra tasks fit in with the genre of my music video. The genre of my music video could be considered a hybrid as it does have elements of several genres of music like folk and synthpop.
Evaluation - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
• One design element that I tried to incorporate in to my ancillary texts was the fact that my main product has an element of “Cartoon” to the stop motion animation. The fact that most of the video has this “cartoon” element to it I tried to add something to my other products to make them feel a similar way. To accomplish this I Decided to use a font type called pointy. This font looks and fit in with the rest of the music video which I have created.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• Another convention which I tried to challenge in my music video is the idea of classic continuity. Unlike the previously where I have tried to further the understanding of the audience, this aspect of my music video which I am tried to challenge is the use of “standard” shot types in which classic continuity as in my music video i have tried to use some shots which make the video more interesting to watch. For example there is an example of where I have used tilt on my music video where Luke (one of the band members) is playing his guitar on a log which is shown on an angle to get a better perspective of him playing his instrument.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Another Convention in which I tried to develop/use in my music video is the idea of rhythmic where the length of each shot is considered. For the stop motion animation to work each shot has to be at least 25 frames per second so that it fits just like any other music video which run at 25 frames per second automatically.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• A convention in which I was trying to challenge is the style in which our music video is shown. The style which I have shown my music video is through the use of stop motion animation, most videos of a similar genre tend to have just the artist and/or the band images though out their music video to show representation of the artist, however I have decided that rather than use the band and artist though out the video, I would use only short clips of the band at certain points in the video to make it so that the audience can relate to but the idea of using stop motion animation to show my music video is to challenge the audiences expectations of what they expect to see in a music video.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• A convention of a music video of which I was trying to develop was the idea of classic continuity where it is the function of this style of editing is to further the narrative. The main reason for trying to develop this convention is to help develop the audiences understanding of our music video and to make sure that it follows a structured sequence of events to which the audiences are able to draw their own conclusions.
evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• An convention in which I was trying to use is the idea of amplification where the visual narrative does not contradict the lyrics of the song but instead they creates new levels of meaning which makes the viewer/ audience think more about what they are seeing. For example the whole sequence of events in my video of the anime and the bear meeting and then walking though a forest and then a urban environment is supposed to get the audience to think further then just what they are seeing.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• The song and band which I have chosen to use for my music video is Weekend Wars by MGMT. The genres of this band can, up to a point cannot be clearly explained as rather than have one single genre, MGMT seem to have combined several genres and have become a hybrid genre. Some of the genres which it seems to have elements of are; Neo-psychedelia, Indie rock, Synthpop, Indie dance and Electro-rock. As a result there are many conventions which there music videos seem to incorporate for example in some of their music videos for examples in the clothing that they were seems to be more of the “hippy” and non conventions which fits in to the genre of Neo-psychedelia.
Evaluation - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
• For my media product I chose to do a music video and some ancillary tasks. A Music video is created for several reasons. Firstly they are created as an source of making money for the artist as, promoting their song will encourage audiences to go out and buy there song. Another reason which a music video is created is so that you are showing the artist (representation) and are trying to appeal to in some cases a specific target audience. One final reason is so that the artist is creating an image so that the audience can relate to them. In some cases this goes further as if not only is trying to relate to them but also may become something that the target audience can aspire to become.
